Getting away from your desk during the workday has been proven to increase productivity, creativity and your general well being. If you work in Borough you’re in luck. There are a number of great parks in the area that you can make the most of on your lunch break. Here, we round up our top picks.

Leather Market Gardens

Leather Market Gardens is the perfect place to take your packed lunch. Perch on one of its park benches and take in the colourful surroundings. The park is full of flowerbeds and boasts an impressive raised circular rose garden. There is a children’s playground and a café, which is open Monday to Friday.

Red Cross Garden

Red Cross Garden is an award-winning park, which was renovated by Bankside Open Spaces Trust (BOST) in 2005. The organisation, with the help of volunteers, has maintained the garden ever since and run after-school clubs, poetry readings, events and tours of the garden.

Potters Fields Park  

Located right on the riverfront, Potters Fields Park is more than just a green space. An oasis right in the heart of the capital, Potters Fields Park sees hundreds of people pass through on a daily basis. The park is home to 50 species of plant and a beautiful herb garden created by Piet Oudolf, an influential Dutch garden designer. Grab a bite to eat in the park’s café or bring your own picnic for a relaxing break away from your desk.

Mint Street Park 

Mint Street Park is a collaboration between BOST and Putting Down Roots, part of St Mungo’s charity, with the support of Southwark council. The park is the largest in Bankside and offers plenty of activity for families. The park is home to an Adventure Playground, a climbing wall, a community stage and a ball court. For the green fingered among us, the park runs weekly gardening sessions.

Tabard Gardens

Tabard Gardens is right around the corner from Net.Works. Borough. If you’re a keen footballer, Tabard Gardens is for you. Offering a 11 a side astroturf pitch for £74 an hour or a 5 a side for £37 an hour, it’s the best local park for a match after work. The park also offers a children’s play area, an outdoor gym and table tennis.

Tanner Street Park

Tanner Street Park is the place to head to for a tennis match. There are four hard tennis courts in the park, which are free to use and there’s no need to book in advance. Even if tennis isn’t your thing it’s still worth visiting the pretty park for a peaceful lunchtime stroll.
